The first part of a series of narratives exploring the life behind the veil of communism in China. A trip to the Huangshan mountains gave me the feeling that there isnt much difference between the western culture and that of the Chinese people in some ways. Still obsessed with spectacle and the tourist trap. The landscape serves as a machine for the pleasure of the people. Just as at the Three Gorges Dam, the people flock to marvel at the beauty, ushered in and out via the gift shop and the numerous pay points along the way.
